Increased international investment in agriculture can support sustainable development and help meet food security needs at domestic, regional, and global levels. Yet, if not structured equitably or regulated carefully, investments may fail to provide expected benefits or may lead to social and environmental degradation. These risks have only heightened as investments in land for agriculture have become increasingly attractive to foreign investors and host countries alike.

Countries concerned about sustainable development confront multiple challenges in managing international investment in agriculture. These challenges include developing robust legal and fiscal frameworks, negotiating equitable deals with investors, mitigating environmental impacts, and protecting human rights.

The Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment will be addressing these issues and more with policy-makers and practitioners in its annual Executive Training Program on Sustainable Investments in Agriculture, which will be held virtually from June 15-25, 2021.

This interdisciplinary program provides an overview of pressing issues related to agricultural investments, as well as an introduction to relevant practical skills. Participants work with practitioners and experts from within and beyond Columbia University. To see topics covered in past trainings please view the brochure.

CCSI is accepting applications here on a rolling basis until March 31, 2021. All applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early.

More information about the course, and to access the application is available here.
