Director’s Office Internship Opening Summer 2019

The Office of the Director at the Earth Institute is seeking an intern to provide broad administrative and research support in summer 2019. The intern will support a four-person team with tasks related to all aspects of Earth Institute operations, management and the director’s priorities.

The intern will help support the director’s office initiatives and programming, which includes research support, writing and developing of memos, briefs, talking points and presentations. Tasks will also include providing support for the planning and execution of events, meetings, conferences, seminars, and special programs. Intern’s tasks may include administrative work such as running errands, photocopying and data entry. The intern will occasionally provide desk coverage for the director’s executive assistant, helping to manage calendar scheduling and travel, answer phones and assist in meeting preparation for the director.

The intern will also help support institute-wide programs and initiatives. Tasks related to these initiatives may include helping to organize and staff meetings, providing website support, providing background research related to projects, and editing project summaries and other related content. For example, the intern will help support the development of a new research database that the institute will launch at the end of the summer. Support may include data cleaning and data entry, and assisting centers and units with populating project information. Other projects may include supporting internal sustainability initiatives, managing social media and blog content, and assisting with community-building efforts.

The position requires excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. The candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining organized and precise in order to provide high-level administrative and research support. The candidate must be able to multitask, work independently, and be discrete with confidential information. The candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Applicants should be highly motivated, professional and detail-oriented. A strong interest in the environment and sustainability is preferred, but not required.

Details

Candidate should be able to work 20-35 hours per week and will be compensated $18 per hour. The term of this position is from mid-May to late August. Extended duration beyond the summer is dependent on performance in the position. Columbia and Barnard students are eligible to apply.
