Students Take A Field Trip to the United Nations

On Friday, April 6th, students from across the Sustainable Development program took a trip downtown to the United Nations for a meeting with the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Jayathma Wickramanayake.

It was a wide-ranging discussion, in which students got to learn more about the day-to-day work of the Office of the Envoy on Youth, Envoy Wickramanayake’s personal background, and many of the key issues facing youth today. The promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals was explored in a downright fascinating matter: global problems, from job security to migration to peacekeeping, were explored from the lens of youth, expanding the incredibly multifaceted nature of how individuals stack up to these issues on a day-to-day basis.

All of us who were lucky enough to be in attendance owe considerable thanks to Envoy Wickramanayake and all of the office’s staff, all of whom were excellently generous with their time and effort in coordinating this delightful visit.
