Carbon Capture, Policy Change, and My First Assignment

Tim Fox
Tim Fox is the Head of Energy and Environment at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in London

As a new member of the Earth Institute’s communications team and a scientifically deficient human who loves the planet my first assignment has been an interesting one: work with the Lenfest Center on a carbon capture and sequestration event with a Geophysicist from London (by the way that was day two). A couple of immediate questions come to mind:   What is CCS?

1. The Lenfest Center?
2. How do I plan an event at this place?
3. Dear University of Vermont environmental event planning: please kick in now!

A few Google searches later and a jaunt around the Lenfest Censter for Sustainable Energy site: www.energy.columbia.edu, I am well informed. To get a gist about CCS check out this video: http://www.earth.columbia.edu/videos/watch/76

Good news is that scientist and policy makers (like our own Klaus Lackner) are working on new ways to make this concept a reality. On February 2, 2011 at 4:00pm in Alfred Lerner Hall, Room 555 we will have the distinct pleasure in hearing from Dr. Tim Fox Head of Energy and Environment at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Come one, come all and learn more about the science as well as the pursuit of policy change. To register and for more information on this event go to our events calendar or contact Carey Russell crussell@ei.columbia.edu

Science for the Planet: In these short video explainers, discover how scientists and scholars across the Columbia Climate School are working to understand the effects of climate change and help solve the crisis.
