New Summer Course Tackles Environmental Sustainability in the Middle East

Environmental issues know no boundaries. These problems transcend national borders and the solution to them lies in a collaborative approach to the management of shared natural resources. A clear example can be found in the Middle East and, this summer, a new field study course will take 10 Columbia University students to Jordan and Israel to learn about how these two countries are tackling environmental sustainability.

Audra Stark, Climate Ride

Reduce, Reuse and Re-(bi)cycle

Audra Stark plans to pedal 300 miles from New York City to Washington, D.C., from Sept. 20-24 to raise money for The Earth Institute and other organizations working on the issues of climate, environment and transportation. “Too often I’ve found myself and others complaining about and debating an issue without taking action in our daily lives,” she said. “Joining Climate Ride is one more way I can act on my lifelong concern about climate change, and take a further step on my personal road to a low carbon footprint.”

Fund Pledges $2.5 Million for Disaster Preparedness Center

The National Center for Disaster Preparedness at the Earth Institute maintains a strong working partnership with the Children’s Health Fund, a national organization that supports pediatric care for underserved children. Over the past decade, the center has engaged in a number of projects funded by the fund, which recently announced its renewed support with a $2.5 million pledge.
