“It was a great opportunity to apply concepts we learned in class to the real world,” said Katie Edmond, a member of the ESP Class of 2014. “Instead of just discussing albedo … we’re actively increasing New York City’s albedo.”
This summer, students from the Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy program have been able to get out of the classrooms and into nature, gaining exposure to many of the ecosystems in New York City and the organizations that work to protect them.
Students in the Masters of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy program participated in a guided tour of Stamford, Connecticut’s waste water treatment plant as a part of their hydrology class led by Professor Michael Puma. The purpose of the trip was for students to experience firsthand how cites manage their waste water.
On July 31, students from the Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy program met with representatives from diverse professional fields for a Career Development Panel. Moderated by Monica Pham (MPA-ESP ’13), this panel gave students the opportunity to see the potential far-reaching applications of a degree in Environmental Science and Policy.
On July 1, students from the Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy program traveled to the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory to expose the students to the research being conducted by Lamont researchers.
Students and faculty from the Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy program toured the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, N.Y., recently to see how environmental science, policy and public activism come together in an urban setting.
On Wednesday, June 26, the MPA in Environmental Science and Policy students presented their Midterm Briefings for their class: Workshop in Applied Earth Systems Policy Analysis.
