Kizzy Charles-Guzmán has been named to City & State magazine’s New York City 40 Under 40 list for 2017. The magazine covers New York politics and government. This year’s Rising Stars list includes the “next generation of political leaders…the most talented young lobbyists, advocates, union officials, government aides” and more.

Charles-Guzmán is the deputy director of Social and Economic Resiliency in the Mayor’s Office and adjunct faculty in Columbia’s  Sustainability Management M.S. program, where she serves as an Integrative Capstone Workshop adviser. Her government work has included developing the Cool Neighborhoods NYC heat resiliency plan, connecting climate data with health impacts to identify mitigation and adaptation strategies and advocate for vulnerable communities.

At the Mayor’s Office, Charles-Guzmán explores the disproportionate effects of the changing climate on communities of color and poorer communities. She addresses these environmental injustices through community investment and policy change, shaping how New York City builds and plans for climate resiliency.
