Student Helps Engage Youth in Nepal’s Earthquake Recovery

Karolina Walęcik is a recently graduated MPA-DP student from the class of 2016. A native of Poland, she focused her work at the School of International and Public Affairs on governance issues in sustainable development and resilience. She spent her summer field placement on a post-earthquake aid transparency project with the Accountability Lab in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Her work aimed to bridge the information gap between citizens and the earthquake responders and citizens, engaging groups of youth volunteers to track financial resources as they are mobilized to for Nepal’s reconstruction.

This is the last in a series of film profiles highlighting the work of students in the Masters of Public Administration in Development Practice program housed within the School of International and Public Affairs. This summer, 57 students will leave the Columbia Morningside campus to undertake 12-week summer field placements with partner organizations around the globe.
