Earth Institute Annual Fund Update

We are proud to report back on a very successful year for the Earth Institute’s Annual Fund.

To date, we have seen an increase in donations of over 100 percent from the entirety of 2013. These gifts have come in from all over the world, spanning 32 countries and representing interest in diverse areas of research. Our donors have shown their passion for and dedication to the work we do here at EI. We are very grateful and can’t wait to continue this growth!

In a year when we’ve seen dynamic growth in the size of our Annual Fund, the End of Year campaign stands out, highlighting the ever growing number of new donors, as well as significant contributions such as our matching challenge.

This challenge, generously provided by Dr. Betsee Parker (see above), matched gifts dollar for dollar up to $300,000. And thanks to all of our supporters, we were able to take full advantage of this match: We raised more funds in December 2014 than any of the previous five Decembers.  This included an increase of 184 percent in the number of donors from December 2013, 58 percent of which was from new donors, and these first time donors accounted for an impressive 20 percent of the total amount raised.

We’d like to say a special thank you to our newsletter readers, such as you, who accounted for 73 percent of our new donors and 56 percent of the total new donor support. Without contributions from individuals such as you, our stunning success would not have been possible.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed, whether it was through a donation or participating in one of our many educational opportunities, reading our work or volunteering. You have had a measurable impact on the work of the Earth Institute, allowing our students, faculty and staff to keep pushing boundaries and produce the solutions that will lead our planet to a sustainable future.

If you have any questions, or would like further information about our programs or how you can contribute, please reach out to us at support@ei.columbia.edu.
