Internship: Statistics and STEM Education
Compensation: 12.50/hour

Description: The Office of Academic and Research Programs is seeking an intern to assist with statistics and evaluation for a variety of projects concentrating around K-20 STEM education and evaluation as well as executive education and professional development..
The intern will assist us in work with large data sets focusing on secondary education, serve as a TA to a statistics workshop we will be having with middle school teachers in the fall, help us integrate statistics into our evaluation rubrics for a myriad of STEM focused programs, and work with this data in excel. Additionally, the intern will support the design and development of evaluation and assessment for executive education and professional development:
Anticipated Intern Tasks:
- Research of large data sets within a statistical framework
- Assist (as a course assistant) in an afternoon statistics workshop occurring once in the fall semester
- Contribute new and innovative ways to integrate statistical data into evaluation
- Work with big data sets in excel.
- Other organizational and administrative duties as assigned by the Director, Academic Initiatives, OARP and Program Coordinator, Academic Initiatives, OARP
Skills Required:
- Major in statistics or a set of classes that allows the intern to fulfill requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must possess a high level of computer skills, most importantly Microsoft Excel
- Must be highly organized and able to work independently

Description: The Office of Academic and Research Programs is seeking an intern to assist with K-12 STEM and undergraduate/graduate citizen science projects through the fall semester.
We are working on an integrated approach to working with K-12 schools and undergraduate/graduate STEM focused student organizations on campus. We are looking for an intern to coordinate our citizen science efforts between undergraduate/graduate student groups and local K-12 schools.
The intern will reach out to all the student science groups, across Columbia, engage them in a peer-to-peer training effort with teachers and students research involving data collection but also what it is to frame meaning with some fundamental statistical analysis
Anticipated Intern Tasks:
- Conduct outreach to public and private schools to find participants for professional development programs
- Assist with updating our webpages
- Assist with reaching out to student groups on campus for Citizen Science projects
- Researching existing citizen science and other education initiatives for the education compendium
- Other organizational and administrative duties as assigned by the Director, Academic Initiatives, OARP and Program Coordinator, Academic Initiatives, OARP

Description: The Office of Academic and Research Programs is seeking an intern to assist with the Sustainable Investing Education Program.
The Sustainable Investing Education Program is a series of intensive content and skills based classes and workshops over two 3-day weekends – Oct. 18, 19, 20 and Dec. 6, 7, 8, 2013, at Columbia University. The Program focuses on embedding human rights and ESG (environmental, social, governance) issues into decision making for investment and will present principles and best practices to mitigate risks and optimize returns. It is designed for asset owners, asset managers and consultants with a long term investment perspective and provides a comprehensive approach to investment analysis including environment, social/human rights, corporate governance and labor issues.
The intern will support in the following areas: marketing and outreach, webinar development, event support, website and communications development, support to program coordinator, and other functions as assigned by the Director, Academic Initiatives of the Office of Academic and Research Programs.
Anticipated Intern Tasks:
- Event support: provide assistance with logistics (including set up and break down) our upcoming Sustainable Investing Program this Fall
- Assist in reviewing existing Earth Institute videos and creating webinars
- Assist with updating our webpages
