This week, students in the Master of Science in Sustainability Management program (MSSM)’s Integrative Capstone Workshop course traveled to Jordan to meet with representatives from the King Abdullah II Center for Excellence (KACFE). The trip was made possible by the Earth Institute Travel Grant program. Here is the second episode, written by Natalia Augeros-Macario, chronicling their activities in Jordan. You can catch up with Episode 1 on the State of the Planet Blog.

Within the last 3 days, we have been keeping busy with 18 meetings scheduled with several key stakeholders varying from ministries, such as the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Water, and the Ministry of Planning and International Corporations, to international development organizations such as the European Union- Jordanian Delegation, UNDP, and USAID, to a key sustainability consultant in the region. Our fieldwork awarded us a surprise invitation to attend a power breakfast by EDAMA on “Fueling the Green Economy” in which our team was able to interact with experts and local leaders on private sector grey water management and reuse.

The capstone team is extremely excited to have the final round of meetings and the wrap up meeting with the client to report our findings, analysis, and next steps. We could not have better hosts than our two Jordanian teammates and the city of Amman.

The capstone team enjoyed being tourists with a guided tour of the Roman Theatre and were gifted with traditional scarves.

Jon, Diana, Natalia, and Anas met with Mr. Mohammad Dabbas, Director of Energy Efficiency & Energy Conservation Department, from the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources.

SUMASA president, Jon Cain, had his weekly "Jon on the steps" while enjoying the amazing view and exchange ideas with the rest of the Capstone team- his best turnout yet!
