It is absolutely disgusting what the Environmental Working Group found in our nation's water supply including over 315 pollutants.

Our cities water companies aren't filtering the water properly and they also dump in more toxic chemicals to supposedly clean it up.

New York State tests for total chromium. My hometown of Gloversville, NY was an early national leather tanning center when "Two-Bath Denaturing (tanning)", was still State-Of-the-Art in leather technology. No total Chromium in our local groundwater has been reported, though we are on a surface water collection, municipal water system. There are many water well serviced homes in the area, though, (see EWG for New York State above).

I bring this up because there are not any tanneries in America today using the old two-bath hexavalent chromium denaturing systems.

All tanning taking place today is with trivalent chromium, though some might argue, no element exists in any one of its valencies, without existing in all of its valencies at the same time.

I used to own the largest sheepskin tannery in all of North America, in Gloversville, NY and I am sensitive to tannery issues....
