An excellent documentation of the situation in Ruhhira, actually, it’s worse in the Northern part of the Country due to the 20 year war that eroded the culture. The story in Ruhiira is just an iceberg of what takes place in most rural areas in the Country, probably with the introduction of Universal primary education and secondary education, parents will appreciate the benefits of girls, since traditional these have been looked as "objects" that would bring in riches/dowry to the family and hence no need to send them to send, that instead they should be married fast for parents to obtain riches. Other negative cherished cultures in rural settings include widow inheritance and the perception that those who die from AIDS have actually been bewitched.

Very good write up. This shows how we still need in addition to other interventions to adress " preventing new HIV infections among women of reproductiove age". However with some good funding from PEFPAR ABY programmes over the last few years,I thought Uganda had made some strides especially in adressing cross-generational sex. Its actually in Mbarara where I saw a big billboard with a big bellied man and a young school girl with the message " would you trust this man with your daughter?" and then it went on to ask " so why are you with his daughter".

Great work.
